How can I grip in googly bowling?
Hi Anik,
When bowling leg spin, you need to grip the ball in the fingers, rather than deeper into the hand, nearer the palm. You three middle fingers should be spread out across the seam of the ball, with the thumb under neath and still on the seam. The little finger then helps with grip across the seam.
As the ball comes out, the fingers and thumb need to work in unison to add as many revolutions on the ball as possible. Its important to keep the ball out near the end of the fingers to help with the release of the ball to prevent it from getting stuck in the grip.
The googly comes from the angle of your wrist at the moment of release to change the direction in which the seam is facing when it hits the pitch, making it spin in a different direction to a regular leg spin delivery.
I hope this helps!
