How should I hold the ball to bowl legspin?
what should be the grip of a legspiner?
Dear Shiv
In response to your question, consider the following for the leg spinners grip:
- Grip the ball with the top joint of the index and middle fingers lying on the seam and the third finger bent along it.
- As the bowlers arm moves forward the fingers are straightened and the wrist is flicked forwards, with the palm finishing facing downwards. The 3rd finger is the one that imparts most of the spin.
- It is the rotation of the wrist and the 'flick' that will impart the spin onto the ball. It relies on a very supple wrist, which can only be strengthened over time and with practice.
Hope this helps, obviously this is only one part of the whole bowling action, but it is an important start point. I have attached an example of the ideal leg spinners grip for your reference.
Hope this helps!
