Hitting On Top Of The Ball Bat...

Set up a bench at the crease for the batsman to stand on.Batsmen stand in set position.The ball can either be thrown or fed through a bowling machine.Straight balls should be pulled by the batsmen and wide balls outside the off stump should be cut.

Keeper vs. Fielders: Pick up a...

The wicket keeper rolls the ball out around the side of the stumps. Fielders run from the left first, then right (then left...) to receive the ball and throw it back over the top of the stumps. Competition: An opposition wicket keeper rolls 5 balls out to try and score goals past the opposition's line of fielders. The winners are the ones who stop the most balls.

Similar to the forward defense, this shot is played when the batter feels a good ball has been bowled and no runs can be scored from it.A good defense is needed for batters to bat for long periods and to score runs.

Drop feed drive Extras - Crick...

Can be done in pairs/ groups of three. Feeder drops ball in front of batter (with arm out horizontally, standing on the off side of the batsman for safety purposes). Batter steps towards the ball, and aims to drive the ball on the second bounce/ half volley, driving the ball on the ground through the target zones. Each group needs 6 tennis balls and each batter gets 6 feeds. Drill is best done in nets (2 grounds per net in opposite directions). Encourage players to wear at least batting gloves when doing this practice.

Ideal duration of the practice: 25-35 mins.

Attacking stroke, played to a full delivery, using a ‘bobble feed’ Relaxed balanced stance, head and eyes level Backswing and step forward Front shoulder dips Base established, front knee bends Comfortable stride, with foot next to ball (on the outside of foot) Shoulders rotate vertically, bat accelerates on contact Bat swings through line of ball and follows through the direction of shot KEY- don’t lean back and try and hit ball too hard- follow all of the above as of the standard straight drive technique.

One batter, a feeder, and a wicket keeper. 4 incrediballs or cricket balls are recommended, as they have a seam to spin ball. 4 good quality feeds each.Player feeds from one knee, throwing ball under arm as an off spinner, with the key being a looped feed. (If players can&rsquo;t spin it, a slow looped feed is sufficient). Feeder aims to land ball on a full length, and batter looks to play ball straight, through zone 1, to be marked out from between the stumps to mid wicket.NB &ndash; Left hander&rsquo;s will still score through same zone, and should ideally be grouped together. PROGRESSION Make target area smaller, if playing to square of wicket, make target straighter.Introduce points scoring system.Bring in Zone 2 (different scoring area for length balls)Change length of feedIntroduce coming down wicket or sweep shot.

5 Stump Pentagon Drill Ground ...

10-18 players required. (Note diagram for accurate lay-out of drill.) Five stumps required for drill. Three stumps are set up on a diagonal line, 10m apart from each other. The other two stumps are 20m away from these, again on a diagonal but this time they are 20m apart.The Coach stands at the top on the middle stump.The drill begins when coach rolls the ball out as shown. Player 1 must sprint around the first stump, change direction and then underarm pick the ball up, aiming to hit the third stump.Player 2 must anticipate the ball coming towards them, and moves forward off the cone to back the ball up. Player 2 then throws overarm at the base of the next stump.Player 3 anticipates this happening, and backs the throw up, before throwing the ball over the top of the final stump.The next player now returns the ball to the coach, and then continues to run around the first stump.Drill continues, and players follow the ball, moving clockwise to the next station.

<BR>Setup the practice as shown.Each player has 8-10 balls, then all rotate clockwise.In the first round of 8-10 players must play every other shot with the top hand only. Make the last round competitive: try to survive all 8-10 balls without getting out.If you are out, change round. On the practice round, players get another ball if one goes wide. On the competitive round, have 8-10 balls whether players leave the ball or play and miss.If a player deliberately plays an attacking shot he loses that round of 8-10 balls. (Be strict on this point).

Use of feet To Defend Batting ...

Looking to defend ball after using feet coming down the wicket Quick feet from the batter are essential when getting to the ball. When advancing down the wicket, batter must aim to keep head as still as possible, and eyes level. Batter needs to be in a still position by the time they make contact, and well balanced. Encourage player to loosen bottom hand upon impact, and maintain their weight into the shot by leaning forward not back. Bat coming through straight s key, with soft hands, with player looking to drop the ball at their feet, making impact underneath their eyes.

In pairs, one player with a football feeding and one with a bat in their stance. Feeder to throw the ball out slightly in front of the batter and high enough for them to header it. Batter to return the ball with a header, with the head leading the player should be automatically stepping into the header.
