Kwik Cricket

Divide players into two teams and then pair up all your players. Each pair should get to bat for two overs each. Each pair starts with 20 runs and can be out if they are bowled, caught, stumped, run out or if you hit your own wicket. Every time a batter is out 5 points are knocked off their total and batters swap places. The winning pair is the one which finishes with the most runs.

(.)<br />Coaching points<br /><br />A. For batsmen (running between the wickets)<br />1. Loud, quick positive calling.<br />2. Changing hands always looking at the ball. Never turning blind.<br />3. Non-striker backing up.<br />4. Run the first run fast.<br />5. Do not run past the crease after one run (because you might have to run again.)<br />6. Run with bat arm stretched out in front of you.<br />7. Hold the bat handle at the end.<br />8. Run your bat in over the line.<br /><br />B. For fielders (creating pressure, stopping singles)<br />1. Walking in, Threatening<br />2. Pace to the ball.<br />3. Watch the ball into your hands under pressure.<br />4. Always back up other fielders and the wicket keeper.<br />5. Get to the bowlers end to take an incoming throw.<br />6. Know when not to throw.<br />7. Know when to throw over the top of the stumps and when to hit them.<br />8. Remain focused when under pressure.<br /><br />Think! I must stop the single and build pressure for the batting side. Then I will force them into losing a wicket - and maybe the match!

(see c50031 &amp; c50031b for more info)<br />HOOK<br />For this shot wear a helmet for safety and realism.<br /><br />(A) Feed a one-bounce dart feed from standing up (throw the feed with pace so it bounces between chest and head height); or (B) field from one knee, underarm throw upwards, around shoulder height (no bounce).<br /><br />In a small sports hall<br />Hit into a wall and fielders will get the rebound or catch. Important - no fielders within the target area. Batsman stands at least 8 metres from the wall.<br /><br />Outside or in a large sports hall<br />Fielders stand within the target area. At least 15 metres from the batsman.

Pairs cricket Conditioned game...

Each team starts with a score of 200 runs.Batsmen can be out in the usual ways, and also: (a) by hitting the ceiling of the hall, (b) by being caught off the walls, except when hitting a 6. The batsmen have unlimited wickets, if you are out you deduct 6 off the teams score.Scoring runs works in the following way :<BR>Back wall along the ground, score 4.<BR>Back wall in the air, score 6 (can not be caught off the back wall).<BR>Side walls, score 2 plus any additional singles that are run.<BR>Back wall behind the stumps, score 1 plus any additional singles that are run.<BR>Wides, byes and leg byes score 1 and an extra ball (be lenient with younger players/beginners)No LBW and Coach must always umpire and score. Batsmen bat together in pairs (e.g. four or five overs a pair, depending on time available.) A batsman can be run out at either end. Bowlers bowl six balls per over, always from the same end. Batsmen change ends either at the end of an over or when a wicket falls.<BR> All players including wicket keeper rotate clockwise after each over, unless you have a specialist wicket keeper.

<BR>Set up for the practice<br>1. Set up the practice as shown in the diagram.<br>2. Target area: 10 metres away from the batsman - safety.<BR>3. Target area 10-15 metres wide. Fielders stand between markers.NOTE: For better players target area should be further away and more narrow.<BR>4. Mark out parallel lines on the floor to show line and length of the ball.<BR>5. Ideal numbers for groups is 4-6 players - Maximum activity.<br>6. Thrower stands 10-12 paces from the batsman.<BR>7. Thrower says Bat up!, then throws a bobble ball, which bounces more than twice below the batsmans knee height. (Underarm feed standing up.)<BR>8. Each group has 3 balls.<BR>9. Ideal duration of the practice: 25-35 mins.

<BR>Set the practice up as shown.Each player has 8-10 balls, then all rotate clockwise.The coach calls bat up before feeding the ball for the batsman to drive the ball through the v shaped cones.If the batsman leaves the ball they get another ball. If they play and miss they do not. If players deliberately play cross-batted shots on leg side they lose that round. (Be strict on this point).If players hit the ball into the air, over the fielders, it does not count and they lose that ball. Make the last round competitive: who can hit all balls through target area along the ground? Fielders must stop the ball. On the competitive round, if a player gets out, all change round.<BR>

11 fielders (including 1 bowler and wicket keeper), with 2 players batting and two padded up, waiting to bat. The 2 batters have one over to chase the target score successfully. If the players lose one wicket, they have 5 runs added to the required total. If they lose two wickets, they are both out. Their first over target score is 6 runs, then if successful, this increases by 1 every over. (6, 7, 8 and so on...) If players are unsuccessful in the run chase, they are out, and the next two batters come in. Bowlers rotate ends they are bowling from and fielders should be encouraged to get between the overs quickly.

One Day Singles Cricket Condit...

10-12 players are needed for singles cricket and players should pair up so that they can bat and bowl in pairs. Each pair has 1-2 wickets, once these have been used those players are out. The rules change depending on how many runs are scored. If the batsmen have scored between 0 and 15 runs they are allowed 3 good balls in which they must hit the ball and run, otherwise lose a wicket. If they have scored between 15-30 runs the batsmen have 2 good balls in which they must hit the ball and run, otherwise lose a wicket. Above 30 runs you must play hit and run, regardless of how the ball comes. Above 40 runs the batsmen are awarded a bonus, if not out, of 10 runs and then they must retire.

Exercise for groups of 3-6 players. 1 person throws 6 balls to the batsman who has to try and hit all the balls between the target area (doesn't necessarily need to be played against a wall). After the 6 balls the batsmen becomes the thrower and the thrower goes to back of queue to field, whilst the next batsman steps in.

The coach throws on one knee with a football style throw in, which the batsmen have to defend by hitting back through the cones, with 6 balls each.

<BR>With between 5-8 players on each team. Each batsmen must drive on one out of 3 deliveries and run on the driven one, then complete two runs. The fielders must stay behind the boundary until the ball is hit. If a boundary is hit the batsmen gets an additional 3 balls. If the ball is hit out of the grounds then 6 runs are awarded.<BR>1) Bat until all out <i>or</i><BR>2) Bat until teams wickets are used up i.e. 4 wickets per team.

Create a V-Shaped area out in front of the batter. Working in groups of 6 players take it in turns to bowl, field and bat. The batsman aims to strike the ball beyond the fielders using a front foot drive. The fielders must prevent the ball from getting past them. Every time the batsman gets the ball beyond the fielders, within the coned are, they score a point.

Looking to hit ball straight back past bowler Quick feet from the batter are essential when getting to the ball. When advancing down the wicket, batter must aim to keep head as still as possible, and eyes level. Batter needs to be in a still position by the time they make contact, and well balanced.

Make two teams of 6. The coach is the pitcher. He stands in a 5 x 5 yard area 10 yards from the wickets (5 cones in a row). Position one cone 10 yards from the wicket. The pitcher passes the ball from the mound in the direction of the wickets (line of discs). The batter must kick the ball and then run around the base, back to the wickets. He must be ready to face the next pitch which is delivered as soon as the pitcher receives the ball, passed back from the outfield. The batter continues to bat until he is bowled out (the pitcher knocks down the wicket) or caught by an outfielder. Continue until all batters on the team are out.

Coming down the wicket is an attacking option which puts pressure on the (usually spin) bowler and can force them to change their length. <br>It takes confidence to come down the wicket but from this drill you'll be able to teach your players how to do it effectively.

Split the group into 2 equal groups. 1 team are the batters and the other side are the fielders. Each player on the batting team has 3 attempts to strike either a ball off a T or a dropped ball between the cones. The fielding team stand between the cones and the wall/  boundary. They have to gather the ball and throw it to their wicket keeper who returns the ball to the batter. Batters can be caught or run out.

Dip your head and shoulder more than for the off or straight drive and let the ball come through. Open your leading shoulder to point straight/ mid on, so that your hip opens slightly, allowing the bat to swing through. Take a short stride towards the ball, stand tall on the balls of your feet and point the toe of front foot directly up the wicket. Plant foot down the line of leg stump - no wider. Stand tall, get up onto your toes with the weight on your front foot and head forwards, directly above body - eyes level. As the bat swings through the line of the ball, work hard to maintain the following: A dominant top hand, relaxed fingers and thumb bottom hand grip, diamond shape with arms, high hands, hands forward of bat face on impact.
