The coach feeds an easy ball to the deuce side and the player hits offensive approach shot to the deuce side and comes to the net. The coach feeds the ball to the backhand side and the player then finishes with backhand volley to the deuce side. The player repeats this pattern from middle of the court and from the ad side.

Coach stands inside the court and feeds challenging short ball. Player runs and hits forehand approach shot on the run.

Movement

Backhand approach on the run

The coach stands in front of the player, and throws a low ball around the service line. The player sprints forward, hits backhand approach on the run and follows to take position at the net.

Backhand Drills

Balance on one leg catch

The coach stands in front of the player, and alternates throwing to the right and left side. The player jumps, catches the ball and keeps the balance on the outside leg. The player then repeats this pattern on both sides.

Keep the approach shot low

The coach feeds medium ball to the ad side, so that the player hits backhand slice approach shot down the line and runs to the net. The coach feeds another ball to the ad side, and the player finishes with backhand volley down the line.

The coach feeds the ball to the deuce side. The player hits forehand cross-court and moves to the net and the coach hits the ball back down the line. The player finishes with deep backhand volley cross-court.

Coach feeds 3 high balls for all players to play forehand smashes. Players rotate positions and return to starting point. Drill continues.
