1st and 2nd volley position

The coach is feeding from the basket and players hit 2 balls each, a 1st volley and a 2nd volley. Players can start between the baseline and the service-line running forwards and split-stepping as the coach makes contact with the ball. After hitting the first volley down the line, they must move forwards closing the net down and edging to cover the line before they hit the 2nd volley cross-court. The 1st volley must be played deep and the 2nd volley as a shorter angled shot.

Approach and smash

-2 feeding players, with a basket in the middle.- Feed a short ball followed by a lob.- After the approach shot the player smashes the lob.

Attacking forehands on the move

Coach feeds three balls per player from the basket. Players should aim to hit the targets (as in diagram - can use cones to mark out targets). The aim is to encourage players to progressively attack on the move.

Players start off in doubles alley and move along the baseline hitting 2 forehands.

In this Drill the players start in the tram line. With the coach feeding the first ball from the basket the first player hits a controlled forehand back to the player at the net who in turn plays the ball in to the open court for the player to run onto the ball and hit a winner down the line. Player then runs around the cone and returns back to the queue.

In this drill the players start in the tram line. With the coach feeding the first ball from the basket, the first player hits a controlled forehand back to the coach who in turn plays the ball in to the open court for the player to run onto the ball and hit a winner down the line. In this drill the players start in the tram line. With the coach feeding the first ball from the basket the first player hits a controlled forehand back to the player at the net who in turn plays the ball in to the open court for the player to run onto the ball and hit a winner down the line. Relay race

This is a simple relay race through the cones with some fun variations for your players: First person in each team balances the ball on their strings moving around the cones to the net and back (like an egg and spoon race) The ball is then passed to the strings of the person next in line, who repeat the run The first team to finish wins the race

Forehand Smash x 2 Players Vol...

Coach, 3 players, and a basket of tennis balls. Coach hits a high feed to player 1 to play a forehand smash. Coach then feeds 4 quick feeds for the same player to play 4 volleys. Player 2 steps in and the drill continues. Then player 3.

4 players,  4 cones or spots, basket of tennis balls. <p class="p1">4 cones set up in a line along the centre of each service box. <p class="p1">Two players take 2 serves each to the relevant service box aiming to hit the cones. <p class="p1">The next 2 players then take 2 serves each. <p class="p1">The drill continues until all balls have been used. 1 point scored for every cone hit.

Coach, 2 players, and a basket of tennis balls. Players 1 and 2 start off on the baseline, and each work on half a court. Coach feeds balls for the players to play deep forehand shots moving across the baseline, in their half of the court. Coach then feeds balls for the players to move back across the baseline, and play deep backhand shots. Drill continues until basket of balls runs out.

Coach, 4 players, and a basket of tennis balls. <p class="p1">Player 1 starts off on the centre of the baseline. <p class="p1">Coach feeds ball 1 to the corner of the singles court for player 1 to play a cross court forehand. <p class="p1">Coach feeds ball 2 to the opposite side of the court just in front of service box for player 1 to run on to and play a backhand down the line. <p class="p1">Coach feeds ball 3 down the centre of the court for player 1 to run on to and play a short cross court forehand. <p class="p1">Player 1 joins the queue. <p class="p1">Drill repeated with player 2/3/4.

Coach, 3 players, basket of tennis balls. Players form a triangle across the service boxes. Coach delivers 3 feeds for player 1 to play a forehand volley, player 2 a short forehand, and player 3 a backhand volley. Players then rotate, 1 - 2, 2 - 3, 3 - 1, and the drill is repeated. The drill is continuous.

Coach, 4 players, and a basket of tennis balls. Player 1 starts off on the centre of the baseline. Coach feeds 3 balls across the court from the players left to right, for the player to run on to and play 3 deep forehand returns. Player 1 joins the queue and player 2 steps on for the drill to be repeated. Drill continues until all 4 players have had a turn. Repeat the drill.

Coach, 3 players, and a basket of balls. Players 1,2 and 3 line up on the baseline. The coach feeds 3 balls. Players 1 and 2 play deeps forehands, and player 3 a deep backhand. Coach feeds 3 balls. Players 1 and 2 play a mid court forehand, and player 3 a mid court backhand. Coach feeds 3 balls. Players 1 and 2 play a forehand volley, and player 3 a backhand volley. Coach feeds 3 high balls for all players to play forehand smashes. Players rotate positions and return to starting point. Drill continues.

Player back peddles to be in a position to play a forehand smash, then runs forward, touches the net, and the drill is repeated. Drill is continuous.

The coach feeds single ball feeds from the basket putting the player under extreme pressure.Starting from the singles tramline the players must try to hit the ball on the run directly back down the middle of the court to the rectangular target.Players can choose whether they slice or hit over the ball depending on how quickly they can get to the ball.Each player hits just one ball at a time so players waiting must be ready immediately for the next feed and after the shot has been played must jog back to the start position at the back of the court in order to keep the drill continuous.Repeat this drill with the coach feeding from the opposite corner.

Use 1/2 court to play 2 feeders per court basket in the middle of the base line. Feeders 1st feed a short ball followed by a lob player on the other side hit the 2 shots and move out of the way for the next player.

Angle it aggressively Forehand...

Coach feeds an easy ball to attack. Player runs and hits aggressive angle shot.Drill specifications:1-5 repetitions per set This drill suits individual lessons as also can be successfully used with more players on the court. When coach is working only with 1-2 students more repetitions can be used to allow players correct own mistakes by looking at the previous shots. Group lessons will be more effective with players switching after one shot because it guarantees good pace of the drill as also all the players will be learning from others all the time.

Coach, 4 players, and a basket of balls. Player 1 starts on the tramlines opposite the coach. Coach feeds the ball across the court for player 1 to run on to and hit a deep running backhand to player 2. A rally continues until a point is won. Player 1 retreats to their starting position, player 2 joins the queue, and player 3 joins the drill. Repeat the drill until all players have played player 1. Rotate players and repeat the drill.

The coach feeds balls from the basket. The first one the player hits a forehand cross court, before running to the other side and hitting a forehand inside out. The final shot is from the other side and is a winner down the line.

<BR>-The coach feeds down the line, the player runs to hit the ball cross court into the target area.<BR>First player to 3 shots (or higher if more advanced players) wins the game.<BR>-The drill can then be run similarly from the backhand corner.

Run Forrest, run! Rally Drills...

The coach feeds a drop-shot from the basket. Players 1 and 2 are at the same end as the coach and are positioned at the net.Player 3 must run forwards to try to get to the drop-shot and play it up to either of the players at the net.The players at the net must lob-volley the ball back over player 3's head. Player must then 3 run back to chase the ball hitting it again to either of the players at the net, who then drop volleys this ball.The point continues in this way until an unforced error is made or player 3 cannot run anymore!

4 players. 2 on each side of the net. Player 1 hits a deep forehand,and a rally starts with each player hitting a deep forehand shot. When it is player 1's turn again they hit a deep backhand shot, and the rally continues. Rally alternates between forehand and backhand shots. Repeat the drill. The drill is continuous.

The coach feeds two balls to a player all on one side of the court. In response, the player hits one cross court shot, and then a shot down the line.After two shots, the player rotates and does the same from the opposite side (i.e. if forehand for first two shots, next two will be backhand).

Coach, 2 players, basket of balls. Coach feeds the ball to player 1 towards the centre of the baseline. Player 1 plays a forehand lob over player 2, who is stood on the T junction of the service box area, to land inside the court. Player 2 cannot leave the service box area, but can play the ball if they can reach it. Coach continues to feed another ball. Players rotate after 6 feeds.
