Arm and back stretch

Lie on floor, with one leg at 90° across the body. Arms stretched wide. Bring the outside arm to the inside arm, turning the head at the same time. Repeat 10 times and then switch sides.

In partners, give each child a racket. Then, using the racket, the children push the ball to each other. They can stop the ball using the racket, then push it back to their partner when in position. Put cones out as goals to try to hit the ball through. Score points for stopping the ball going through.

Hit the Cone

Start with one marker on the floor. The player must hit the ball upwards and get the ball to land on the marker, (5 points for each success.)- Now get the players into pairs, taking it in turns to hit the same cone (still 5 points each time.)-Now give them two cones, placed about 1-2 metres apart and get them to aim for each others markers (10 points)They must let the ball bounce before the hit it.-This is now a basic rally.

In And Out With The Wall

Player stands facing the wall and hits forehand volleys against the wall. After each hit, the player moves forward and closer to the wall. Once at the wall, the player continues to hit the ball against the wall but now moves back to their starting position. The aim is for the ball to not touch the floor.

Keeping low one leg squat

Lunge forwards, then take the weight on just the front foot, staying low before bringing the back foot level with the front foot but still off the floor. Arms out in front for balance. Stay balanced on one foot, before bringing the other foot through to become the new front foot in a lunge.

Knee Serve (single knee)

Player kneels down, putting one knee on the floor. Player serves from this position.

Lunge and elbow to floor

Player starts in a plank position on their hands. Bring their right foot out to the side and level with their hands. At the same time drop the arm nearest to the foot so that the elbow touches the floor at the same time. Push off the front foot and walk the hands forward to get back into a lunge position.

Lunge out to the side. Slowly lift the straight leg off the floor and bring it to meet the other leg, whilst staying in a low 1 legged squat position. Hold it for a second, lower it to the floor to take the weight and lunge out to the side again.

Player 1 is feeding from the service box and player 2 starts on the baseline T in the ready position.Player 1 rolls tennis balls along the ground, in a random pattern, one after the other and player 2 must move to each ball, stop it with their hand before it goes outside the singles tramlines or baseline.After stopping the ball player 2 should roll it back to player 1 who can then roll the next ball.

Tie a knot in a resistance band so that there is a hoop at one end big enough to fit around a person.Fasten the resistance band to the net post. Have the player step into the hoop.Walk out until it is stretched.Lunge forward towards the net post, then push off back to standing and use the other leg. Hands stay on the hips, can't use them for drive out of the lunge.

Cones are set on both sides of each player, Player 1 rolls all balls cross court. Player B rolls all balls down the line, with both players rallying together for as long as possible.Ability to control the ball in the easiest activities is important to further develop tennis-specific skills. Cooperation is of utmost importance for young players so this skill should be emphasized in each rally exercise.

Player stands on the ad side with a cone in hand. Coach serves from the ad side. Player then catches the ball inside the cone and throws it over the net. During the first few tennis lessons, it can be too hard for kids to return the ball with the racquet. So the coach has to adapt to this situation and still improve returning skills; using a cone is a great opportunity to imitate a returning environment and improve receiving abilities.
