Tennis: split

-Player serves to deuce court towards feeder and comes to the net.-The first player on the advantage side shadows the server and comes to net.-Feeder hits a ball to server who returns it cross court.-Feeder hits towards server again but the shadow server intercepts and hits cross-court winner.

Player 1 only has one serve. Player 2 returns and follows it into the net to volley or smash. The server should not be allowed to lob the first shot. Player 2 should aim for either a deep return or cross court. Play out the points and first to seven points is the winner.

Teacher feeds the ball, however the student must shout out when they are about to split step (which would be just before the teacher feeds the ball). Ball is hit to centre of court and student makes a low forehand volley to the target before returning to the line. Concentrate on stopping for split step and controlling the volley.

Player 1 only has one serve. Player 2 is returning the ball whilst 1 metre inside the baseline or closer if the serve is short. Player 2 should be aiming for either target A or B.

Drill Set-Up:Players start off in backhand corner (Doubles alley).Players move out to play first F.H. along baseline and then moves forwards to play short ball inside service box.Topic of Emphasis:Players should split step after first forhand and then move off for second shortball.VariationPlayers can alternate direction for both shots.If the ball is too low on the second ball it should be hit cross court, if high it should be hit down the line.

Player 2 has to tell player 1 where they are returning before the serve. Server only has one serve (depending o n the level of the player). Player 2 is rewarded bonus points for htiing into designated area and eventually winning the point.

-Student serves, the player has to split step before the feeder makes contact with the ball. -This drill was used to demonstrate that one server and one feeder can hit 6 balls in 35 seconds while four servers and one feeder can hit 21 balls in the same amount of time.

-The players are in pairs in this volley race.- Make sure players stay in the service box area and that players don't hit each other with the ball.- At first forehand volleys only.-The pair to have made the most volleys in 30secs wins.This can then be done with backhand volleys and various variations.

- Player plays two rapid fire volleys from either side, then goes to the back of the queue.- Set up targets i.e. cones.- Split step before volleys hit!.

Practice serve then player has to play the ball down the line and the player at the net has to try andplay the ball cross court between the two opponents. If the ball is not played correctly opponents can return the ball and try to win the point.

Rings are placed in front of the player. The player rallies with the coach/player and has to perform split step inside the rings before each shot.

Drill to practice kicking accuracy and contesting the ball in the air.Split the players into two even teams with different coloured bibs (red and blue).Set up two squares (roughly 15m x 10m, with a 5-10m middle zone - see diagram). Split each team in half so half of each team is in each square.Players have to try to kick the ball to a player on their team in the opposite area to score a point.For each kick that is caught on the full by a team mate in the opposite area the team scores one point.The opposition team are trying to disrupt the catch by competing in the air or trying to distract the player catching the ball.PROGRESSION:Use one ball to start with then introduce multiple balls.Players kick with the ball with their less dominant foot.Catch with one hand only.Set a time limit on the time a player is allowed to hold the ball for before kicking it back (e.g. 2 seconds).The catcher has to pass to another player in their team to kick the ball.

Split the players into 2 equal groups, Both hitting forehands. Coach feeds left then right. Players have to move out to the ball and try to hit the ball into the coned are down the line. Play first team to score 10 points.

The coach is feeding from the basket and players hit 2 balls each, a 1st volley and a 2nd volley. Players can start between the baseline and the service-line running forwards and split-stepping as the coach makes contact with the ball. After hitting the first volley down the line, they must move forwards closing the net down and edging to cover the line before they hit the 2nd volley cross-court. The 1st volley must be played deep and the 2nd volley as a shorter angled shot.

Scatter some cones (divots) across the area, some the right way up, and some upside down. Split the group into two teams - 'Hackers and Greenkeepers' - and spread them out across the area. On the word 'Go' the Hackers run round turning the divots upside down and the Greenkeepers must turn them the right way up.

Split the group into three teams. One team starts in the middle of the grid along the line. The idea of the game is to kick the ball over the middle team and try to land the ball in the oppositions area. If the ball is caught then no points are scored, if the ball bounces in the oppositions area then 1 point is scored. If one of the players in the middle catches the ball (they gain 1 point) then they swap positions with the team that kicked the ball.

Players start off on baseline moves into no mans land for approach shot then move up to hit a 1st volley and finish with a 2nd volley.

Cones are set in the ad corner (backhand corner). The coach feeds random balls and the player hits only forehands into the proper zone.

The player stands in square stance and the coach stands in front of the player. The coach feeds balls behind the front leg. The player has to put body weight on back leg and hit forehand while maintaning balance.

<BR>-One player is positioned on the service line, the other closer to the net.<BR>-Player 1 lobs every second shot and player 2 hits alternately volleys and smashes.<BR>-This is a warm up drill and players focus on keeping the ball in play.<BR>-The drill can be done with or without rackets.<BR>-Players swop round after approximately 3 minutes.

In this exercise, the main emphasis is put on control and footwork. Coach stands in front of the player and tosses balls randomly. Player has to adjust to the incoming ball and hit controlled volley back to the coach. Proper form and consistency are main goals to achieve.

The player wears resistance band attached to the waist and ankles. The coach feeds the balls to the forehand side, and the player hits only forehand volleys in a low dynamic position.

Cones (stations) are set on the player's side. The player starts from the first cone and the coach feeds the ball. The player then tries to hit the ball into the deuce zone. If he makes it he is allowed to move to the next station. If he doesn't he tries until he makes a successful shot.

Two players face each other.Players are only allowed to use shuffle steps.Player A tries to move to the side to &quot;break the line&quot; with partner.Player B's goal is to maintain this imaginary line by reacting to opponent's change of direction.<br>

Players line up in two lines half way down the court. The coach feeds the ball short over the net for a player to run diagonally across the court to play the ball down the line.

Players stay on the service lines and rally together in a cross-court direction. Players have to hit all the balls in the air.

Coach is in front of the player. Coach rolls the ball on the ground quickly after player serves the ball. Player's goal is to recover behind the baseline before ball goes between the legs.

Coach feeds the ball to the forehand side, with the player just behind the baseline.Player runs out, hits one forehand, recovers their position to the middle and runs out for a second and third time. After the third time they go past the middle as though the next shot is coming to their backhand.For the first two shots they hit the ball crosscourt and then the last one down the line.
