Full acceleration

Coach stands next to the player. Coach quickly throws the balls. Player fully accelerates and hits all balls as fast as possible. Max 4-5 repetitions per set This drill is really demanding from the physical side so number of repetitions should be adjusted to the player fitness preparation. Too many reps will not bring good results because of the tired arm as also can be responsible for player’s injuries of the shoulder. Between the sets with the coach other players can work on specific drills with medicine ball/bands to strengthen the shoulder area.

Player stays on the baseline. Cones are set behind the player. Coach feeds deep higher balls. Player takes the ball on the rise and hits aggressively. Cones prevents the player from moving back.

Drill specifications: 6-8 repetitions per set Other players can watch the playing person to learn from his good and bad attempts or they can perform specific physical activities that will have a positive influence on “hitting on the rise” aspect. That’s why these drills should be focused on shoulders’ strength and power because of physical demands of this stroke.

Players start off in doubles alley and move along the baseline hitting 2 forehands.

Serve, Volley

-Student serves, the player has to split step before the feeder makes contact with the ball. -This drill was used to demonstrate that one server and one feeder can hit 6 balls in 35 seconds while four servers and one feeder can hit 21 balls in the same amount of time.

The loop and sneak: Cat and mouse!

Players are rallying up and down the centre of the court in the usual way. When either player decides to, they can change the flight path of the ball and hit an aggressive topspin loop to push the opposing player to the back off the court. The point is then live and the players play first to 11 points. The player who has hit the aggressive loop can wait to see what damage their shot has done to their opponent before deciding where to position themselves on the court. If the loop has been played well and deep, the player may look to sneak into the net after it as it is likely the opponent will hit a weak reply. However if the loop has not been hit deep enough it may provide the opponent with a slower midcourt ball so the player must be ready to defend if this is the case.

Using the middle to defend under pressure (it's the biggest part of the court after all!)

The coach feeds single ball feeds from the basket putting the player under extreme pressure. Starting from the singles tramline the players must try to hit the ball on the run directly back down the middle of the court to the rectangular target. Players can choose whether they slice or hit over the ball depending on how quickly they can get to the ball. Each player hits just one ball at a time so players waiting must be ready immediately for the next feed and after the shot has been played must jog back to the start position at the back of the court in order to keep the drill continuous. Repeat this drill with the coach feeding from the opposite corner.
