Set up: 9v9 Reds (pressing): GK-2-1-4-1 Blues: GK-4-3-1 Working with Reds (focus on pressing in the final thrid and trying to win the ball back as high up the pitch as possible). Pitch dimensions: 70x50 (roughly just over half a pitch). Conditions if required: Ball always starts with the Blues GK. He looks to feed LCB, RCB initially. Can play into or LB, RB if they can't get out. Decision making. Can the blues hit their target man within 2/3 passes (have to shift ball quickly) Reds have 10 seconds to win ball back or goal is awarded to blues. Make sure you effect all the Red Team. Startegy is to defend from the front starting with movement from Red No.9. Principles of defending: Delay. Depth. Deny. Compactness.
1. Looking for Lone Striker (Red) to cut off swithc by arcing his/her run onto the CB right shoulder to force Blue CB to try and play into an area that the reds can pinch the ball. 2. CM (closest player to the ball) gets touch tight to their CM. Looks to regain possession if it is a poor pass. If not force backwards. 3. Deep lying midfielder provides cover to the CB and stops the ball into their target man's feet. 4. Ball is played out to Blue LCB or LB, Red midfield 4 shuffle across and squueze the space. What if the LB pings switches the play to RB? Can Red LM close down quickly enough to play on his first touch? Midfield four shuffle across and squeeze space. Force Blue to play back. Not in behind the midfield.
