Objective: To work on passing/transition play and fast attacks ina 4 v 2 situation In an area the width of the 18 yard box and roughly between the D and the centre circle, we play 4 v 4 within the zone. Two goals are set up in line with the penalty spot - the goalkeeper can handle up to the edge of the area. Once a team completes 4 passes (supported by their 2 teammates outside), the 4 inside players can attack the opposition at the other end. The 2 supporting players from the opposing team defend. This creates a 4 v 2 situation for the attack. When they have scored or when the attack ends, the opposition's goalkeeper quickly plays the ball into the central zone to a teammate and they have the same aim in teh opposite direction. The 4 attacking players must retreat very quickly (transition from attack to defence). The defending team are not allowed in the area (although the goalkeeper is allowed out). Players should swich roles in and out of the zone every few minutes. To provide for quick transitions, at least two goals should be positioned by each goal. Progression: A designated player from each team within the zone is allowed to defend with the 2 supporting players making the attack 4 v 3. Prgression: The defending team are allowed in the area.
1. In attack, players should look to pass in behind the defensive line and make runs into the area - the 2 outside defenders are not allowed into the penalty area. 2. Teams need to react quickly and regroup for the transition from attack to defence.

Teams have just 6 seconds to exploit a turnover before defences reorganise. Learn how to train your players to attack with speed and purpose.
