This activity is a fast pace game that should create a lot of crossing and finishing opportunities. It will also help with transitioning between attacking and defending. Create a short but wide field with a goal on each end. The width is the full field but depth will depend on the number of players that will be on the field at the same time. Have a supply of balls by each goal. Play always starts from the goal keepers. Their first look should always be wide and up the field. Second look is wide and short with the third look down the middle. Players receiving the ball need to play into space or immediately to another player. Players off the ball should be making runs to space or to pull a defender out of the play. The two center backs must always stay on their half of the field. Forwards must stay on the attacking half of the field. The outside backs can go on either side of the field. If you have midfielders, they can go on either side of the field. Initial shot has to come from a cross. After the cross, any deflections can be played as a regular match. If the ball goes out the side then normal throw in rules apply. If the ball goes out the end the goal keeper on that end puts another ball in play. If a goal is scored then the goal keeper of the scoring team restarts play from thier end. Progression: limit the amount of touches.
keepers need to look at the whole field and play quickly to an open player's feet. players receiving the ball must have a good first touch either into space or to another player. attacking team need to get the ball down the outside as quickly as possible. players off the ball need to keep moving using different runs to throw off the defenders. crosses in the air need to be away from the goal keeper. crosses on the ground need to be firm. players need to transition back to defense as quickly as possible. when transitioning to attack quickly regain shape and look to move forward quickly.
