Striker is marked by one defender with the other sweeping. Cm starts with the ball and feeds it to one of the wingers. The Sweeping defender goes toward the winger, looking to push him wide and to either challenge him or block any pass. The Striker makes a run into the box and his marker goes with him. The other winger runs into a position at the edge of the box looking for a pass and a strike.
Sweeping defender needs to push out towards the winger in a controlled manner so he is forcing the winger wide but not leaving any space. Push out too quickly and you risk getting beaten by a dribble. Push out too slowly and the winger can take the ball to the line and get a cross in. The defenders need to work together to cut down space vertically and horizontally. The sweeper needs to cover any run to the front post half space and the pther defender marks the striker and cuts out any ball to the middle of the box.
