Duration: 15 minutes Set Up: 2 cones in a line approx. 15m apart 2 players in a line approx. 15m apart. 1 ball per line INSTRUCTIONS: Before beginning the skill, discuss jockey technique Approach quickly Begin slowing before approaching Get into jockey positionLow with knees bent Watching ball Ready/athletic stance at 45 degree angle to attacker Maintain jockey positioning staying approx. 1metre from attacker Stay goal side Description: 1 player at each end. One end is the attacker the other is the defender Defending player passes to the attacking player Defending player will quickly approach attackerSprint to about halfway Start slowing approach until approx. 1 metre away Get into jockey stance Attacking player will dribble to opposite site and defender will jockey. Note: to start, focus on the technique, not beating the defender or winning the ball from the attacker. Repeat 5 times and switch attacker and defender Coaching Hints: Get to the attacker quickly but do not lunge in Get into proper jockey stanceKnees bent At 45 degree angle to attacker Watch feet and ball Progression: Attacker can dribble faster and force the defender to switch angle. Attacker can attempt to get around the defender and hit the defenderâs cone with the ball. Dribble it in!
