Setup: Use match goal. Coach 5 to 10 yards from GK depending on age. Exercise: GK works for 3 catches each side (1 rep) then swaps or rests for 20 seconds if working with coach. Repeat each rep at least 2 times per GK (12 catches total). Allow GK to regain feet and reset between serves. Younger GK's should work with a coach. Reps: Mid-level serves (knees to waist) for collapsing/scoop catches. Low-level serves (rolled or to knee height) for low catch.
Coaching Points: Serves should be thrown initially, raising slightly in pace & intensity through reps. CONFIDENCE IS KEY - focus on the GK succeeding in making the catch whilst beginning to stretch them. Get the GK used to hitting the ground.
