Blue player 1 tries to get past the first red defender.
If they succeed in losing their man then the second defender should come across to close the space and shut off the blue player's route to goal.
The first defender should try and shepherd the attacker down the touchline and away from the danger area (the goal). The second defender should always be prepared to come across and shut down the attacker's route to goal if necessary.
Progression:
Only have one covering defender - this means they have to focus on both sides (left and right) and have to be more aware of the attacker breaking past the defender.
If the attackers do break away from the defender the covering defender will have to move quickly to cover the space.
