Hockey: Relays: Push Pass

Ignatius

DESCRIPTION

- Two groups
- Practice push pass off both feet
- Dribble with the ball, then pass on the move
- Strongside to Strongside passes

COACHING POINTS

- Players should pick the ball upright so they can move away with the ball quickly
- Utilise passing off of the right foot to move the ball quicker

PROGRESSION

- Introduce a cone 2 off centre that player must go around
- This will cause the ball to be received on the angle, practicing picking the ball up when not taken at 90 degrees

Relays: Dribbling:

- Two groups
- Dribble the ball onto the other players stick
- Move off at pace

Warm-up Games

Pass and Follow:

Pass ball to player and then chase pass to put pressure on player.

Receiving player either passes first touch or two touch to the next player.
First touch should be in direction of intended pass.

First clock wise then anti clock wise then both ways

Group size can vary 5 would be in a square. etc

Warm-up Games

Pass and receive:

The blue team position themselves tactically around the area.

Players with the ball make a pass to one of the static players, looking to then receive the ball back again and then pass to the next static player.

Mirror: Two Balls:

- Players work in pairs
- Approximately 5 yard line
- One player leads, the other follows
- The leader must move the ball up and down the line, while the follower copies these movements
