Handball: Bobbler catching - Working in pairs

Many thanks. This resource has helped me a lot, as a coach and as...
Lucy, USA

DESCRIPTION

Players stand about five meters apart with one ball between them.

  1. Players throw the ball to one another using the underarm throwing technique (step onto opposite foot. Thrower's palm should point at their partner).

  2. The player with the ball throws the ball overarm at the floor, about half way betweem them and their partner. The other player must react to the bounce/bobble and catch the ball.

COACHING POINTS

How many catches can your players make without dropping/fumbling the ball?

It's important players don't throw the ball too hard - the ball shouldn't bounce higher than hip height on its way to the other player.

Remember:

  1. Watch the ball,
  2. Heel of hands together to catch,
  3. Fingers around the ball,
  4. Pull ball into your chest.
