Advanced catch ball rotation

The 2nd player in the line throws a high ball over the head of the 1st player, for them to run onto and catch close to the bowling square. Once they have caught the ball they should turn and throw to the fielding player at the 4th post. The 4th post player then throws the ball to the new 2nd player in the line who then repeats the exercise.

Beat the call

Split your group into two teams: A throwing team and a fielding team. The fielders have to put one player by each post and the rest in the field. Players from the other team have 1 ball each. Each player from the throwing team has to come into the batting square and call out which base they are going to run to. Immediately after call out they must then throw the ball to one of the fielders after which they have to try and beat the ball to the post. The ball then gets thrown back to the square for the next player to call, throw and run.

Drill for fielding first post

This practice is to help the backstop and fielder at 1st post to improve the speed of delivery in trying to get the batter out. 3 players with the ball 1 bowler 1 backstop 1 1st post fielder The rest of the players line up to to one at the time step into the batting square to dummy hit the ball and try to to beat the ball from the backstop to the 1st post by running as fast as possible to touch 1st post

Two lines of players facing each other. Player 1 rolls the ball along the ground for player 2 to run and do an underarm flick back to player 1 who catches the ball and puts it down. Player 2 to join the back of the line. Player 3 repeats the drill. Swap roles after 10 successful flick and catches, if the ball gets dropped start counting back at 0. Roles swap on achieving 10.

Aim - to encourage lateral movement Work in threes. Start with a ball on every cone. The worker starts at the bucket (middle) and works laterally to each cone to retrieve the ball and bring it back to the middle. see how many retrieved in 30 seconds. once all the balls are in the middle the next worker can try to take each ball back from the middle and place it by the cones.

Fielding team has 1 player by each post and back stop with one fielder standing in the field beyond the 1st post. ( you can vary each time) Player with a ball in the batter square has to throw the ball into the direction of the deep fielder. after which this player should try to run a a rounder ( to 4th post)all fielders should run to line up behind the fielder on 3rd post to relay the ball all the way down the line to try and beat the runner.

After the first player has thrown the ball to the player next to them, they have to run all the way around to try and get back to their starting position before the ball does.

1) rolls ball out a short distance. 2) runs in, underarm flicks to 1) who catches ball. 1) puts ball down, runs back and tags 3) then 2) rolls ball out. Repeat process until all have had a go.

Divide players into two teams, one fielding and one batting. The fielding team bowls 4 consecutive balls to a better. Once the batter has hit all 4 balls into the field, all of the batters on the batting team must run around all the bases at the same time, as many times as they can before all of the balls have been returned by the fielding team. The next batter then does the same, and all of the batters run when all 4 balls have been hit. Do this for each batter on the batting team, before the fielding team goes in to bat. Winner is the team with the most rounders scored.

Rounders: Long barrier penalti...

Pairs stand 3 to 4 metres apart between a pair of cones (their goal). By throwing the ball underarm, below waist height, players must try to get the ball through their opponent's cones. Players score a point every time their opponent either drops the ball or fails to prevent it passing between their cones.

Set up: 6 players, rounders balls, posts. The drill: The bowler bowls the ball to the batter who catches the ball, and rolls it to fielder 1. Fielder 1 throws the ball into the 2nd post, which should now be occupied by the runner from post 1, who only runs to second once the batter has caught the ball. Fielders 2 and 3 form a triangle with the post to back up the throw. The triangle should be in line with wherever the ball is coming from. The batter could run to put pressure on the fielders

Divide the main group into smaller groups of 4 and set up as shown. The ball is thrown to the fielders (person in the middle) right or left for them to dive onto the mats. The two players behind the mats are back-up fielders.

Players work in groups of four. With one feeder and one fielder stood on a post, with another two players backing up behind the post player, in a triangle formation. The fielder throws the ball to the post players for them to catch. Every time the ball is thrown the backing up players should get behind the post player, ready to stop the ball in case the player misses the catch. After 10 throws each players rotate in a clockwise direction.

In 3’s. 2 feeders and one worker. Feeder one feeds the ball by rolling it along the ground to land in-between the cones where the worker starts from. Worker picks up the ball and gives it in one movement back to the feeder. They then turn and receive the ball from feeder 2 who does the same. If the ball is going diagonally it must be thrown underarm. If the ball is being thrown along one of the edges it must be rolled (flat or bobble feed). Players can choose where they throw the ball - they can either roll it square along the floor or they can throw the ball diagonally in the air.

Batter 2 calls YES hit or run,  then starts to run on the call. Fielder 1 feeds from an angle, fielder 2 runs in and flicks at player 1 moving to the post. Player 1 touches the post with the ball. The batter is either in or out. When 3 lives are used up the team is out, then batters change with fielders.

For this practice you need 8 players per group. Set out 4 cone in a square about 5 metres apart. Set out 2 flags a further 5 - 10 metres away from the square . and finally a finishing post. The race is for the runner to beat the ball being thrown via every gold player to the finishing post.

Players work in groups of 5, in a grid with 5 cones set up in a zig-zag formation, roughly 7 metres apart.Each player stands on a cone. All players, except for those queueing behind the first cone require balls.On the coach's call player 1, on the first cone, aims to get to collect the ball that has been dropped from shoulder height by the player on the cone in front of them, before the ball bounces twice.This is one pick-up.Player 1 then gives the ball back to the player on the cone, and sets themself before the coach gives the next call.Again the working player aims to get to the next ball before second bounce.This process is repeated until all players have performed 4 pick-ups.

Two players per team, stood about 4-5 metres apart between two cones (the goal). Both teams must try to protect their goals by stopping the opposition from throwing the ball through their goal. Using only underarm throws players must try and score in their opponent's goal. A goal is awarded every time their opponent either drops the ball or fails to prevent it passing between their cones.

Set Up: Players work in groups of 3 with 2 balls. Players A, B and C should be spread out over 20m, with player C standing in the centre between 2 cones. <hr /> The Drill: Player A rolls the ball between the cones towards player C. Player C moves towards the ball, picks it up and releases it underarm back to player A. Player C then turns and repeats the drill from player B. Player C to work for 30 seconds then rotate i.e A to C, C to B, and B to A.

Set Up: 1 feeder, 1 worker, 6 rounders balls, cones, mat. The Drill: Players work in twos and start with the feeder kneeling on the mat facing the 6 balls in front of them. The worker is 3 metres away to the side of mat. The feeder feeds the 6 balls out of the side of their hand for the worker to catch and then drop as many as possible.
