DESCRIPTION

  • Player stands inside the service box without a racket.
  • Coach feeds a short ball that bounces right in front of the player.
  • Player steps forward with their right leg and using their right hand, blocks the ball with external part of the hand just after the bounce.

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill the player gets familiar with physical demands of a half-volley shot.
  • Player has to understand where the point of contact is and achieve a balanced position.
  • Legs have to go low while maintaining a straight upper body to allow the arm to do the job.
  • A lot of players can have problems at the beginning when assessing the trajectory of the ball. The coach can get closer to the player and throw the ball to make it more comfortable for the player.
