Tennis: No Late Volleys

Thank you very much for the marvellous site.
Nick, Tennis coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Player stands inside the service box.
  • Coach/partner stands next to the player with their racket touching the players shoulder.
  • Player shadows a backhand volley without touching the partner's racket while in their backswing.

COACHING POINTS

  • To achieve control over a volley, players should maintain point of contact in front of the body.
  • It simply means that all actions before hitting the ball should increase the chance of meeting the ball in front of the body.
  • Knowing that players have to react at the net and make shots in a split second, a short backswing is necessary to be able to do this.
  • After shadowing, the player should try to hit some balls (still with partner on their side) to see if the backswing isn't impacted when more factors are included in the exercise.
