This session will develop your players into incorporating the forehand slice into the game, whilst tactically aware of when to make the right decision to do so. Make your players aware of the benefits of using the forehand slice and the backspin shot - take the ball away from the opposition and force them on the back foot. Focus on control and generating the perfect slice of the ball, changing up the rhythm of a rally to gain the advantage!
What’s in this Session?
Make sure your players are warmed up and raring to go, properly stretched to reduce the risk of injury. Start with a small rally from the deuce line, getting your players moving and reaching the small slice volley. Movement is key on court to making the slice and we work on this more when going through the defensive slice, moving to attack with a slice down the line. Go through other key drills such as responding to a lob with control and making the return down the line, so you can add multiple shots to your players’ arsenal.
Coach the importance of the slice shot and watch your players transform into stars!
On-court coaching is now fully legal, technology continues to advance, and the ATP calendar evolves. Here's what tennis coaches need to know for 2026.

Ecological dynamics is transforming tennis coaching. This constraints-led approach develops adaptable, creative players who can solve problems in competition, not just execute drilled patterns.
