This Sportplan Session looks at building your players' ability to keep his/her balance when hitting backhands, forehand and service shots.
Many tennis strokes are performed on the run so having good balance is a priority for the modern player hoping to dominate after their service or in a rally.
Control Of The Body To Stay Balanced
Control of the body is of utmost importance in tennis. Top players such as Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic masters of balance, which allows them to to finish points with only one shot after the serve.
By putting your players into challenging situations where they must keep their balance while hitting shots will build core strength and improve balance when they are making strokes all around the court.
This way whatever shot they are playing, whether static or on the run, they will be able to adjust to the ball and maintain good dynamic balance, so they boost their chances of leaving the court a winner
Self Awareness
As your player improves and rises through the levels their ability to analyse their own game and recognise where they need to work on a particular skills will grow.
To help that process the session includes a drill whereby the player has to be aware of their body movements and call out if they fall off balance.
