Hi Ellie,

Whenever I start my training session, we always start with 5 minutes of basic passing in pairs. Always start close and practice passing, then increase the distance to practice pushing, clip hitting, slapping and slightly raised passes.

We then go into a relay dribbling passing drill. Just have your players line up in two lines with around 5-10m apart and dribbling a couple of metres and then passing to the player opposite. Players receiving should take the ball in the upright playing position so they can move with the ball quickly - this really makes it game realistic.

Progressions can include:

  • Getting players to dribble left or right and then pass - this will get them thinking about which foot to pass off and practice a reverse pass
  • Introducing a defender to get them thinking of movement

Hope those help!
