im twelve, i play for my school team and i am going for a trial at southgate hockey. I play up front, and i can shoot pretty well but i cant lift it over the keeper. any tips would be much appreiciated
The best way I can describe this is to bring your hands lower down your stick wich will force your body closer to the ground and then instead of hitting the ball square on and hitting through the ball have the ball by your back foot and hit down on the ball (hit just above the middle) this will bring the ball up. If you wish to get a stronger hit then after hitting down on the ball hit through the ball (finnish the swing like you would if you were hitting the ball normally). Hope this helps and good luck with your trials Im shure you will make it.
Agree with Shontelle, the secret is to squeeze down the hit on the ball as you connect. This can make the ball jump up off the surface, grass or artificial.
The second way is to slap hit the ball, but have the stick leaning back 40-60 degrees from vertical. This forces the leading edge of the stick slightly under the ball. As you swing through the hit, the angled stick lifts and hits the ball forward over your goally.
The third way is to flick the ball over the goally. If you are inside the circle and receiving a pass. Stop the ball with the end of your stick and again lean stick backwards 40-60 degrees and push/scoop the ball over the goally - works best if goally is already lying down on the field. You dont need to aim for top right or top left corner of the goal. Just aim to clear the ball out of the goally's reach. A hard push around goally can be just as effective, dosen't look flash, but the selectors will notice good skills and smarts, not just dash and flash!! Good luck with the trials.
