If a batter makes contact with a post and then 'swings' around moving past the 2m run off line whilst still holding the post should an umpire ask the batter to run on or due to the fact they made contact with the post before passing the 2m run off line are they 'safe'?
A batter can cross the 2m extension line and stay at a post so long as they remain in contact with the post and the post remains vertical. An umpire will only ask a player to move on to the next post if they lose contact with the post when over the line and the ball is still in open play, if the post/base is leaned or they have made contact with the post after they have crossed the extension line. The player may get to the next post safely or be stumped out. If a player loses contact with post when the bowler has possession of the ball in the square, an umpire, in a high level game should declare them out ( leaving the post early)
