Which drills can I use to train my team how to prevent an overlap out wide?
one of the things you can add to your defensive system is an "up or push-out" code. Give this responsability to your fullback who`s is seeing your numbers and their numbers from behind. He`s will communicate to the line if there`s enough numbers to go up or if the must keep pushing/drifting.
We use two easy calls: RED and GREEN.
RED will mean "let`s rush, go up, we have the numbers, don`t push, run straight" and GREEN will be something like "keep pushing, don`t rush, put them to the touchline, hold them".
Agree with the above, you cannot prevent an overlap at times, but can give them the system to use for them to manage the situation. All about systems and triggers, also agree with player making the call, being in the back 3.
Agree with the above, at times you can`t stop an overlap, but you can install systems and trigger points for your players to read and implement.
Also agree with the player calling the (Stagger = attackers outnumber defenders, so work attackers to touch line OR Smash = defenders out number attackers, rush defense) player calling this must be part of the back 3 (wings or fullback). Can see the bigger picture.
Same as previous post mentions, just different lingo.
Ja that makes sense Darin...I agree that overlaps do happen no matter what...So I think the best solution would be communication between the back three and the backline defence. Thanks for the info.
