Hi I have just taken on an U10s team for this comming season, the kids are great, in the group I have two players with autism and one with adhd, so I try and keep talking to a minimum and get them moving with the ball asap during sessions. These health conditions are not something I have had to learn about or deal with before, are there any other coaches that have experienced this that can offer any tips?
Hi Barry,
This is a great question! I've put a couple of tips below that I've used and been told over the years but would be great to hear other coaches' thoughts:
Make things really specific
Try and relate the coaching points to something they may know a lot about. For example one individual I coached, loved space, so I often found myself referring to things as planets and space ships.

Hey Barry,
As a parent and coach of a child with ADHD my suggestion to you is to keep things simple and quick. I find if a particular drill or activity goes on to long or there is a wait between activities his mind wanders or he becomes disruptive (silly behaviour)
lots of short activities seems to be a good way to keep the whole team engaged and switched on.
It may also be worth speaking to the parents as to understand the best way their child learns or triggers.
