Hey all,Can anyone suggest some drills or tips to try and help my under 8s from crowding the ball carrier, We are finding that all of the team huddle around the ball carrier at Starts / Restarts. I dont want to keep stopping play to tell them that huddling around the ball carrier is not creating the space they need as i sound like a broken record.Any suggestions very welcome.Cheers
Hi Matt,
You could implement a drill similar to this one where defenders are designated specific channels they must operate in. This emphasises the importance of staying spread out in defence and keeping the width.
Bunching in attack is also a problem for younger players. This same drill could be used with attacking players only allowed within their specific lane. Similarly, there is a great drill on the site called 'Depth and quick hands' under the handling category which emphasises realigning and organising in attack and passing the ball out to the wide player.
Hope this helps.
