from where on the pitch?
Hugh,
Dennis is right - we probably need some more information from you in order to give a more precise answer.
Here is a simple drift defense practice for you - there are more in our "Drills" section.
I hope this helps,

Defending Between 22m and 10m
I personally would not use a drift in this area, but use more of a man on man rush to force play behind the gain line.
The problem with a drift/slide is that it slows down at the last moment to push wide, which gives the opposition time to move the ball beyond the tackle line and possibly the gain line. The forwards will then be looking at moving laterally to a possible breakdown.
With man on man rush, the opposition are looking at how they take the ball and where to pass, so are naturally slower than the rush. our front 3 will usually pass the line of forwards, so our forwards should be moving forward to the breakdown, and theirs backwards.
Hope this makes sense. I don't profess to it being the answer to all, just my take on it.
Regards
Den
