hi i coach mini rugby to u9s. wondering if you have any useful drill s to 1) introduce positions to group 2) COntrol presentation of ball in tackle
Trev - In the past I have used a simple method as follows. 2 man drill%3A ball carrier and support player. Have the ball carrier jog with the ball followed by the sp player. On your command have the ball carrier go to ground and the Sp player should then place his/her hands on the floor anywhere behind the ball carrier (now tackled player). The aim of the exercise is to have the tackled player used to placing the ball on the ground behind them. The tip is to to give the sp player complete freedom on where he wants to put his hands on the floor and the tackled player needs to look beofre placing the ball on the hands - Good for all round awareness and makes he tackled player look for the sp before presenting the ball. To finish the drill the Sp player picks up the ball and becomes ball carrier and the tackled player then becomes the Sp player etc... hope it helps
