Sportplan rugby has played a large role in my team's love for the game!
What is the current thinking regarding kickoff receiving alignment?
My son's u16 team is suffering from a wheeling scrum. The front row's height is 5'6 for the loosehead and hooker and 5'11 for the tighthead. Is this a contributary cause? My guess would be that their shoulders are not hitting squarely, causing an angle.
I have a junior Colt (u17) 6'3" plays 2nd row. He has good skills but want to `bulk-up' to make bigger hits when tackling. Anyone suggest a suitable weight-training routine to help him put on muscle.
Hi im a first time coach and is still getting the hang of how the technical details of the game works the back line is my department and whould like any help i can get to know what drills to do and anything helpfull in the backline im currently coaching for the under 9 and 10
Are there any drills to encourage three-quarters to quickly return to the midfield to defend 2nd phase possession? My U11s backs get drawn into rucks amp; mauls and leave the opposition too much attacking space in midfield. Thanks
an RFU directive states that coaches should not hold pads/shields for juniors to run into during sessions, or even juniors holding pads for each other!!! I notice a lot of drills utilise pads as this was something we always used when I trained years ago! I personally think they are a good thing (especially since some of the juniors I coach are 'not small'!) BUT wondered what the general thoughts were out there in SportPlan world....
Looking at developing a session through to and including the 3rd phase. Objective is play from scrum, with the 13 coming short. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi, I'm coaching my second team union (as i have injured my knee and cant play for the next few months) and the team consists of mainly league players, so they are rugby minded but will need help getting to grips with union - lineouts scrums when to and not to kick where to kick to etc. Any tips / ideas would be great.
When taking a tap penalty can a member of the kicking team be running onto the ball before the tap is taken?
My forwards constantly pick and go from the rucks in games and this is starving the backs from any ball. Is there anything I can do, drills etc, which would help them realise there is a time and a place for pick and go, but to do it every time narrows the game and it becomes ineffective and not good teamwork.
Just wondering if anyone has formed a basic game plan for a 2nd year tackle team (U9) and how it went. I am thinking that the forwards at this age would be quicker to the breakdown if they knew exactly where the play will end up on the field...Thoughts and opinions please
Hi - This is my 2nd contact through the website. I've also sent x2 emails but had no reply. I notice my account is now cancelled - thank you. I did this within the trial period however so would like to be refunded the value of the 3 months taken.

Tips on scrumming stance for Props and Locks/2nd rows
During a recent U17's league game, the opposing side took two consecutive quick tap penalties. During a break in play shortly after, as the coach attending an injured player, I questioned the referee on the legality of this passage of play, as my understanding was that two consecutive quick taps, used to catch the opposition in an offside position and therefore gain terratorial advantage, was not allowed under current law. The referee responded that this law is at his discretion and when we discussed after the game, he stated there is no such aw and that it is a "gentlemens agreement". I have since reviewed the laws on penalties and there is no specific law preventing a side taking two quick tap penalties. Has anyone else come across this interpretation and how can this be managed consistantly if when watching elite games, such a move is not allowed yet can be allowed at junior level ?
I will be coaching under 10 next season and need some guidance on how to interpret the rules for the maul?
I have started an under 10s team up, and I would say about 8 from the 13 children I have , did not play rugby until about 6 months ago. Of these players, there seems to be a lot of potential, as we are scoring tries against teams, that very rarely concede tries.the problem I got with them, is that we are very poor at organising our selves in defense when the opposition has the ball, which does result in us conceding quite a few tries. We have some very good tacklers in the team. Can anyone offer some ideas on how I can get them to organise themselves? Thanks . Chris.
My team are new and are very slow on reforming the defensive line, any ideas on how to speed it up?
Just started coaching u13, are the 2nd row allowed to bind through the props legs or do they have to bind onto the side? Asked using Sportplan Mobile App
