Coordination Dribbling (15 minutes): Set up a square about 15mÃ15m using cones (do this before class starts) Each student has a ball and dribbles around in the area. Emphasize the importance of keeping your head up and looking for open space. Call out various commands (ie: right foot only, left foot only, insides only, outsides only etc) for the students to do. Introduce âtoe tapsâ and âground jugglesâ (see the âwarm-up touchesâ from http://www.strongsoccer.com/Kingdrills/clipspractice.htm#Scissors for more ideas) Next, call out various body parts. When a body part is called, the students must use it to stop their ball (ie: âelbow!â or âknee!â). The students then get up again immediately and continue dribbling around. Finally, stop the group have the students recall the turning fakes they just watched. Have the students practice each of the moves a few times in the grid at their own pace. Then, have them dribbling around in the grid again. The teacher then calls out one of the fakes, and the students must execute it and accelerate away in the opposite direction.
