Players line up in suitable numbers (exercise can be duplicated depending on number of players). A line is defined at the mid-point between players' starting point & a set of gates. Coach is positioned at the side, close or adjacent to the gate. On command each player in turn sprints towards the gate. At around the mid point, the coach kicks the ball at pace towards the on rushing player. The player must control the ball as quickly as possible and continue towards the gate. Initially the player must "take" the ball (continue sprinting through the gate with the ball under control) First progression is for the player to "give" the ball instead (immediately upon controlling the ball pass accurately back to the coach and continue to sprint towards the gate.) Second progression. As the player receives the ball the coach shouts either "give" or "take" and the player must act appropriately.
Drill designed to improve players control with fast-moving balls & also to improve their speed. Decision making & quick reaction times are also targeted with the final progression.

Teams have just 6 seconds to exploit a turnover before defences reorganise. Learn how to train your players to attack with speed and purpose.
