Hi all, I have to do a 30 minute presentation about the attacking principles of the self pass. Will appreciate any help.Thank you
Hi Divan,
30 minutes is a long time to discuss the self pass but let`s see what we can do!
The first thing is the speed of play. Since the free hit can be taken instantly by a player, the game can be played at a much quicker pace, and therefore you don`t allow a defence to set themselves before continuing.
Following on from the above, I believe it helps the mindset of players to continue to move forward. Since a defence is less likely to see a wall of players in a press, the mindset is not simply to put the ball into a transfer and find a new space. The gap should already be present if you move quick enough (see below).
Because of the nature of the self pass i.e. a foul has been committed by someone near the ball, you usually remove a player directly from play by having your player take the free hit quickly. This means the defending player cannot affect play in the 5 yard radius and since we are looking at attacking play - this effectively means this player has not affect on the carry.
Let me know your thoughts on the above,
Josh

A few weeks into the league season, poor first touches are costing teams the ball. Coach body shape, scanning and receiving on the move to keep possession.
Pre-season fitness fades fast once the league starts. Build conditioning into ball work and use rolling subs well to keep your squad sharp all season.
