How do you know what variations to use when you are attacking a short corner. ie what variation/tactic to use when they are running a diamond or a box etc.
Hi Kyle,
Observing how the defence is running is always important, whether it be a 3-1 (Diamond) or 2-2 (Box). In modern Hockey, teams are running a 3-1 regularly, hoping to reduce the ability of running set pieces smoothly, and a greater trust being put onto the goal keeper.
If the opposition runs a 3-1, then both slip options are covered, but there is a greater likelihood of space in behind the runners on the posts.
If the opposition runs a 2-2, then one of the slip options should be available, and will usually be the same side every time, so observing this and running set plays accordingly may be a good solution.
Let me know your thoughts,
Josh
