Here's a couple of drills that could help junior goalkeepers gain confidence in stepping off the goal line and closing down play:
- Kick through Gates: This drill involves the goalkeeper starting behind a line and advancing towards a feeder who strikes the ball at goal. As the goalkeeper's confidence grows, the feeder can strike the ball harder. This helps the goalkeeper practice stepping forward and attacking the ball, which can build confidence.
- Touch the Cone and Save: In this drill, the coach calls out a cone color, and the goalkeeper must touch the cone and recover back to the goal to save a shot. This drill encourages quick movement and decision-making, which can help in building confidence and vocal communication.
