Hi guys Iâm helping coaching the local rugby union team and Iâm receiving a mixed opinions from the coaches about the pre-game warm-up. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Hi Aaron,
what's your current approach to your pre-match warm up (lots of running or lots of handling etc)? What are people's complaints about your current approach?
Will try to help if you can provide a little more information.
Thanks,
Alex.
I am also interested in what constitutes a good pre-game warm up.
I have started to use a mini game (full contact) as part of the warm up.
This seems to get the players in the right frame of mind for the begining of the match, where I have found in the past just warming them up is not enough to get them in the right frame of mind from the kick off.
Thanks guys this is my Pre game warm up =Total 25 min
4min%3A Heart rate up & Stretches = ladder drills... stretches
4min%3A Handling = Quick hand...
8min%3A Defence = Individual and team defence
4min%3A Unit skills = Forwards and backs split to work on moves
5min%3A Team run
Aaron
That looks pretty good to me. I suggest that as much as possible the team runs the warm up themselves - the coach can help with timing and having equipment ready etc but the team leaders should be in control as they will during the game.
