I am trying to plan winter training sessions and am interested to know what kinds of drills and workouts that have worked best?
Hi Krystal,
As a player, in winter we definitely want to be staying active. so games / conditioned games are really good.
I think pre-season and when the weather nicer is a really good opportunity to set up your training for the rest of the season. For example, when it was warm at pre-season we would do more talking about tactics and how to perform our skills and then practice them in small groups.
This has set us up really well for winter training because now everyone knows our game plan and we can just reinforce it each week by playing simple games.
When looking through the Sportplan library some drills could involve periods of work and periods of rest. This can be great for players to be able to watch each other and analyse what is being done well and not so well. But for winter I would always try and pick drills from the Sportplan library that involve as little rest periods as possible.
I`d also suggest keeping up with a bit of fitness training over winter!
I hope this helps! Good Luck!
