Hello, I have a real issue with certain players in my team, they are lazy, undisciplined, don't respect the coach or trainner. What should I do? how can I try to get them back on track? The problem is that we are a small club, our team is only 11 members and they feel they have their own position earned no matter if they train or not. Thanks!!
Very difficult to deal with when you have such a small team Luis, as you already know. You need to start building a good team ethos, working on aspects like teamwork and respect. Get your team pushing each other, not just at training or in games but also pushing them to get to training and pushing them to adhere to the team ethos. Also, plan your trainings well, kids respond well to a well planned training, as long as you vary the drills over the weeks. If you can instil a good team ethos, you will not only have a keen team at training but you`ll see more success on the pitch.
Good luck.
we had similar issues with our team (U12`s) and i think it comes down to planning - keeping the sessions busy , more game style learning not drills so that the disruptive ones don`t get too long ... we also gave the boys the job of help out with the coaching (kinda) given certain boys the role of captain and telling them what a captain needs to do, ie. set example etc. good luck
Get the players to come up with their ideas of appropriate behaviour in training. Combine this with your own ideas to form a Players Code. Do the same for your own behaviours. Share the outcomes with players and commit to stick by these codes. Ensure you build in discussion of who is responsible for ensuring code is followed (everyone) and get the players to say what should the consequencesfor breaking the code.
