Get beyond the 23m line

2 players stand on the 23m line with a defender. The defender is only allowed to defend outside the 23m area. One player on the half way line starts with the ball. One of the attacking players on the 23m line runs to the back line and the other runs diagonally away from the defender and towards the player with the ball. If the defender runs with the player without the ball, the player with the ball can try to pass the ball through the created space to the player on the back line. However, if the defender stays in the space the player with the ball can pass the ball to the player running diagonally for that player to pass the ball to the back line (dog leg). Once the player receives the ball on the back line, the game switches around and the defender can now only defend inside the 23m area.Important to make the area at least 10 - 15m wide otherwise the defender can cover both options too easily.

Hockey: Practice to learn the ...

The defending team forms a line on the half way line of the pitch (in this case the 23m line).<BR>Any player from the opposition that runs beyond the line of defence, should be very tightly marked while inside the 1/2 court. Every time the attacking player runs back out. The defender should stop on the defensive line. Every time the team playing 1/2 court gains possession of the ball they should have a fast break situation. It is important that only 2 out of the 5 players should take the opportunity of this break, and not the whole team, because on losing the ball you still want to be able to continue playing the 1/2 court.

King Ball Conditioned Games - ...

This is a game where you learn to pass the ball beyond defenders, to players in space. No aerial ball allowed. Two teams positioned either side of the 23m line. One player from each team goes to the end zone behind the opposing team. The team with the ball has to try and pass the ball into the end zone behind the defence. Whoever makes the successful pass can join the player in the end zone. The aim of the game is to be the first team to have all their players in the end zone behind the opposition. The ball can only be won by the opposition intercepting a ball on the way to the end zone or back.

Count to ten and catch Moving ...

Players have a ball each and start from the 23 metre line. Coaches or helpers are standing with their back to the players whilst counting to ten (at any speed). During the counting the players are trying to get across the half way line with the ball to win the game. However, when the coaches reach ten they can turn around and catch the players. The players should try and get back to the safety zone behind the 23 metre line. Any players caught help the coaches catch the rest of the players.<div id=miniAd>H1</div>

Play 5 vs 5 or 6 vs 6 with goals facing to the side line (can also be played with one goal positioned on the top of the circle turned to the back line and the other goal 15 metres inside the half way line facing away from the other goal). Teams try to score a goal, encouraging players to go deep.

Defenders on 23 metre line closes down and forces the attacker outside away from the goal. Attacker has to try and score a goal.

The aim of this exercise is to encourage the players to attack down the wings. The attacking team is not allowed to pass or attack through the zone. Defenders, on winning the ball, have to try and get the ball out of the 23m area, also wide of the zone.

2 equal teams in the circle and lots of balls on both side lines. The coach calls out a team. 1 of the players has to run to one of the sidelines and take the freehit. All the other players have to run to the 23 metre line before they can get involved. After each break down or shot at goal, coach calls out the next team.

The LD takes a hit in from the side line. Their compulsory pass is to the the SW. As soon as the ball is played the 3 players with the ball have to get the ball out of the 23m area. (Tip is that one ot the 3 players with the ball always takes a position between the two defenders).

2 teams try and score by running the ball into the scoring zone. Rules are: You can only pass the ball back of square. The defensive players are not allowed to go beyond the line of the ball. For the rest of the time, players can run with the ball and tackle.

One of the four defenders in the circle passes the ball from inside the circle to the 4 forwards on the half way line. As the moment of the pass two defenders have to run around one of the cones on the 23m line before they can defend, the other two defenders can defend straight away.

Attacking from deep left Shoot...

Player 2 (left wing) receives ball from the Player 1 (left midfield) and takes the ball into the zone where the defender can try and win the ball. Just before player 2 loses the ball he/she turns away from the RD and passes the ball to palyer 1. It is important that this player stays outside the 23m area and straight behind player 2. When player 1 receives the ball he/she plays the ball to player 3 who runs into the circle and has a shot at goal.<br />Every player then follows their own pass. and takes up their new position. Next player then starts.

A line of attacking players stand outside the 23 metre line with a ball each, with one other attacking on the goal side of the grid. Inside the grid there is one defender. The first attacking player has to try and play the ball to the player in the circle through the area with the defender. On playing a successful pass the player then follows their pass through the area, into the circle and the next player can try and pass the next ball through the area.

3v3 to break 4 v 2 Overload si...

Set up two grids wide on the half way line. Tell the players to play 3v3 possession in the box. Have two player waiting in the 23m area. When the ball is played outside the 2 areas on the halfway line it is the team that did not push the ball out to break. The team mate on in the 23m area has to come to the ball to receive the first pass. (other player can try to defend. The player that touched the ball out of the grid is the defender that can try to stop the breaking team scoring. The other 2 players wait in the grid.

Set up two lines of players as show in the image. The players with the ball start from the middle of the pitch on the 23m line and run out towards the side of the pitch. <hr /> The first player (blue) runs with the ball at pace and then stops the ball inside the box in front of the other player. The blue player continues their run around the cone in front of them and then runs back inside the area. The receiver (red) runs onto the ball left by the first runner and then runs into the D and tries to finish through one of the wide goals. The blue player should have continued their run and now tries to put pressure on the receiver's shot.

One defender dribbles with ball into the area in which two attackers are waiting to tackle for the ball. On winning the ball the two attackers run out of the area to try and score a goal. The defender can run back and try and stop them. When the attack has finished the two previous attackers become the defenders and start the exercise again.

Score at goal 1 and 2 = 1 point.<br />Score at goal 3 = 2 points.<br /><br />If team A scored a goal at 3, team A should straight away change direction and try to score at goal 1 or 2.

Players line up in two groups outside the 23 metre area.<br />Player on the left, passes the ball to a player on the right running towards the goal. On receiving the ball this player runs into the circle and shoots at goal. After passing the ball, the player on the left runs towards the goal and receives the pass from the player on the left etc.
