Drag Flick - Stage 3

Place the ball on the penalty spot. Start with both feet behind the line. Left foot steps level / beyond the ball. Right foot crosses behind the ball (sometimes the hop step), the left foot then steps out towards the target and then the ball is drag-flicked.

- Striking the ball at right angles off of the right foot- Useful when changing the point of the attack- Allows the strike to be gotten off quicker- Dribble towards a cone, performing a hit off the right foot once the player has moved past it- Focus should be on weight transfer to the right foot

- Performing the indian dribble while jogging

Power Push

Place the stick behind the ball and push. There should be NO NOISE on contact. Start with the ball in line with the right foot as this allows for maximum weight transfer. Endeavour to keep eyes up throughout stroke and stick. In contact, feel the ball. This may be difficult initially but will pay dividends with your potential high achievers as it will let them see a defenders late movement and allow them to make adjustments. Tip: Place the right foot on a line. Start the ball on the same line.

Reverse Drag

Standing in pairs on each cone players have to run with the ball at the left cone of each gate. When they reach the gate they should then drag the ball to the right cone and run around the gate. Once they have returned to where they started from the other player can run around the cones. After a few goes each reverse the direction to change the way players do their reverse drag.

- Practicing moving the ball from the right to the left foot and back again- This a dramatisation to emphasise how the weight of the player should move with the ball- Excellent for beginners

Coaching Objective: To promote weight transfer by transferring ball from side to side, jumping from one foot to the other.  Purpose: Develop the confidence to drag the ball from one side to another at different speeds. Plus create the spring in the transfer of weight so that when transfered to eliminations, the attacker has the ability to spring out of the skill and accelerate away.

Aerial pass or flick is useful when passing over distance or to try and get the ball over an opponent who is blocking your passing route. Left hand should be pointed at target, knees bent, head over the ball and feet wide apart. Drop the right shoulder and transfer your weight forward, bringing through head of the stick under and behind the ball. Left hand comes through first and then the right hand to lift and guide pass. After lifting the ball body and arms should continue to move forward and end up pointing at passing target.

Pull Back Moving with the ball...

Line up four sets of cones at staggered intervals going forward in a left, right, left, right pattern - preferably with a different colour cone to mark the end of each line. Players take it in turns to dribble along the lines of cones. When they reach the final cone (red) they perform a pull back around <span style=&quot;text-decoration: underline;&quot;>all the cones before then progressing to the next set of cones on the other side. Repeat this for all sets of cones.
