
This exercise can be used to focus on defending organisation and playing out from the backine.. As well as creating goalscoring opportunities. The defending team need to keep possession and play the ball out to the marked squares, whilst the attacking team also get to practice quickly getting the ball into areas that allow goals to be scored. The attacking team start with the ball on the edge of the marked in front of the defensive team's target areas. The playing area should be kept relatively narrow to keep play in 'dangerous areas. This can be adjusted for the number of players. The aim for the attacking side is to win the ball and then set up a goal scoring opportunity as quickly as possible. The aim for the defending team is to play the ball into the marked target areas.
The main focus of this execise is winning the ball by defending in unison. Key points being: 1. Communication 2. Forcing the attacking team into areas less dangerous areas 3. Keeping calm possession of the ball 4. Move for eachother 5. Go back if you have to For the attacking team: 1. It's about setting up a goal scoring opportunity ASAP 2. There are plenty of player actions that need to be executed by both teams in order for this to be successful. Not least: - positioning, quickly moving into goal scoring positions - communication - body positioning - anticipation - completing the pass and the next movement to support or make space - 9 needs to make runs off the blind side shoulder of their defender as balls 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 - Overlapping runs
