DRILL TYPE: Tennis Skills FOCUS: Sending and Receiving/ Groundstrokes Progressions SKILL LEVEL: Pre-Tennis A great drill for young children to develop their hitting skills. ORGANIZATION: Students stands approximately 6 feet apart from from the wall. 1. Each child retrievers one racquet and one ball and finds personal space facing a wall or fence. 2. Each child will hit the ball on the ground against the wall, trying to keep a rally going. CUES: Hit Roll Hit Progression: 1. After they have mastered this, see how many rallies hits they can achieve. Tips: 1. Explain to the children it's important to keep the ball under control. 2. Hit and roll the ball to the side of the body. 3. Keep your racket low to the ground and short racket swing. Safety: 1. Ensure players are well spread out on the court. 2. Setup cones or poly spots to show the children were to stand.
