
DRILL TYPE: Tennis Skills FOCUS: Sending and Receiving SKILL LEVEL: Pre-Tennis A great drill for the children to work on their ball hitting skills. ORGANIZATION: Students stand approximately 6 feet away from the wall or fence. SETUP: Use cones and poly spots to show the children were to stand. 1. Each child retrieve one racket and one ball and find a spot ( personal space) facing the wall or fence. 2. Each child will hit their ball on the ground against the wall and then trap it with their racket strings on the ground. CUES: Hit Roll Trap PROGRESSION: 1. After the children have mastered this technique, see how many conservative hit, roll and trap. 2. Children can increase or decrease the speed at which the ball is traveling. SAFETY: 1. Ensure players are well spread out.
