Rugby: Box Kick

Your tips and session ideas have really brought some interest back...
Eifion, Rugby Coach

DESCRIPTION

The box kick is a very dangerous tactic for attack and defense.

When attacking it can apply immense pressure on a team by putting the ball behind them. It also isolates the receiver making them vulnerable to turnover.

It can also be dangerous if not executed correctly as you can end up giving away possession.

COACHING POINTS

Keep eyes on the ball.

Fingers spread facing the direction of the ball to ensure quick hand placement and ball drop onto foot.

Ensure the ball lands on the foot at the correct angle and at the correct height.

Make contact with the ball low down, this is the area where the most power can be transferred into the ball.
