The purpose of this session is to develop your players' roles and responsibilities at the breakdown as well as introducing players to a simple pod system - developing an understanding of when and why they should commit to a breakdown.
What's in the session?
To improve how your players contest the ball in the tackle area we first recap how to present the ball with a game of touch ruck before practising clearing three rucking threats for quick ball.
Now that your players are pumped and ready we get to work on your pods - teaching them to receive the ball and go forward as a group, attacking the defenders and using their support to power the opposition out of the way!
If your players have worked hard (which I'm sure they will have) it's time to reward them, with a conditioned game that increases the likelihood of contact to result in lots of breakdowns - to make sure your players go home with a smile on their face.
