Creating Match Conditions

Replicating game pressure:

Scoreboard pressure: Setting targets and scenarios that demand specific performance.

Time constraints: Creating urgency through limited overs or time.

Consequences: Meaningful outcomes for success and failure in practice.

Crowd simulation: Adding noise and distraction to build concentration.

Scenario-Based Practice

Chasing targets: Required run rates and wickets in hand scenarios.

Defending totals: Death bowling practice with specific runs to defend.

DESCRIPTION

Set up two square areas with cones - distance apart to suit ability level of players. Place half team in each area. The objective of the game is to win a point by underarm lobbing the ball into the oppositions zone so that the ball hits the ground. Alternate throws from end to end. To change the game up; Add in a second ball. Have the player who lobbed the ball run to a point outside of zone and back to before they can be involved in play. Catch with over head technique (reverse cup) only. Catch with standard cup only. Make zone smaller / bigger.

COACHING POINTS

Catching; call loud and early. Move quickly under ball with aim to be still (head / eyes still) on catching. Hands above eyes (reverse cup) Hands at eye level (standard cup) Soft shoulders, elbows and therefore hands - with give.
