Rugby Drill Demonstration

Description

Player starts on the black arrow. Player either steps or hops over tackle bags on the ground in formation show. When player reaches the end of the tackle bags, call a colour. Player changes direction and accelerates towards that colour (you may also use numbers if you do not have coloured cones).

Move to the black cone. Zig zag through the gates, accelerating with each step to the finish.

Can be done with or without ball in hand.

Coaching points

With tackle bags, emphasize agility. Spend as little time on the ground as possible. When player has to move to the coloured cones, emphasize acceleration towards and past the cone. No shortcuts!

At zig-zags, emphasize correct side-stepping technique. Push powerfully with stepping foot and then drive off non-stepping foot to accelerate away quickly. Move through all of the gates. No shortcuts!

When using ball, emphasize carrying ball in two hands at all times.
