DRILL TYPE: Ball and Racquet Skill FOCUS: Controlling the ball with the racquet and ball. SKILL LEVEL: Red/Orange Ball 1 EQUIPMENT: Youth Racquets Red/ Orange Ball Donuts SETUPS: Have the players find a partner, both partners have a racquets and 1 ball. Place a donut in between the two partners for a target. DRILL: Players are in pairs with a racquet each, players stand roughly 1 feet apart with a donut between them. The players will take turns tapping the ball with the racquet with either the forehand or backhand will trying to hit the ball on the donut. Taking alternate turns to simulate having a rally. PROGRESSION: After the players have mastered the drill, move to a competitive game. See how many times they can hit the donut between them.
Make sure the players keep their racquet strings facing up and flat as a table to ensure ball is controlled. Players must keep their feet moving and keep their balance.
